Lincoln 27 + Beyond

Beyond Green Sustainable Food Partners is a consulting and foodservice company that promotes scratch cooked foods, local sourcing, and zero-waste. FIG joined the Beyond Green team in the Lincoln 27 Elementary School District in Lincoln, Illinois, supporting a full transition of the school food programs there from heat-and-serve products to almost 100% scratch cooked meals. FIG’s role was to engage stakeholders and evaluate the impact of the transformation on students, families, teachers, and school nutrition staff. Annual evaluations will be conducted through June 2022.

Update: Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, LESD27 managed to continue to serve primarily scratch cooked meals to their students. Support for the programs remains high, and the district continues to look for ways to increase local sourcing and elevate their kitchen programs.
